Scarleteen

Since one of my topics is sex education, I would be remiss in not mentioning Scarleteen, a wonderful & thorough sex education site. It's aimed at teens and young adults, but I find them applicable to most if not all ages, not to mention genders & orientations.

I'm posting about them now because they are run exclusively on donations, and are in dire need of support.  They've been operating beyond their income for some time now, and having raised very little from their most recent fundraiser, have vowed not to do so beyond May 1.  That would mean a drastic reduction in their services.

So, go check out their site, avail yourself of the amazing wealth of information, and, if you feel it is valuable, make a donation.  As a professional fundraiser, I often hear & use the phrase "every little bit helps." And while this is true, Scarleteen is trying to raise an additional $3,000/month to actually pay for all the services they have been providing for years.  So, give what you can, but also help spread the word.

Porn Sex vs Real Sex: The Differences Explained With Food

I came across this video that talks about the differences between and porn & real sex, in terms of statistics (totally safe for work in most places).  It's not new, but I thought it was still worth sharing.

Maybe later, I'll write about why I personally feel this is important.  In the meantime, here's the link to where I found the video, because their comment is also relevant.

Shakesville. Yes.

If you're not familiar with Shakesville, I encourage you to get familiar with her.  A great place to start is this open letter she just wrote to Jimmy Fallon.

An online game like no other

If you've never taken a trigger warning seriously before in your life, please heed this one.

There is a new online game, The Day the Laughter Stopped, that I highly recommend.  But it comes with a serious trigger warning. One of my favorite sites, The Mary Sue, writes about it here and includes a link to the game. I recommend reading the beginning of the article, and then playing. The game is more effective without the information in the article, but still a profound experience with it.

Do play it if you can.  But many people will not be able to. Practice self-care, and be honest with yourself if you can't handle it, whether that's today or ever.

Re-boot

So, I've been re-booting a lot of my blogs, and I wasn't sure I would re-boot this one. But, as I've been doing a lot of work with sexual violence, I decided I'd go ahead and use this space to talk about that.

So, the big 3 (sex education, sex workers' rights, and polyamory) have become the big 4, with the added focus of consent.  However, you could view it as the original big 3 simply being subsets of 1 primary issue of consent.

Sex at Dawn

I just read this book!

I don't agree with everything it says, but it's a much better read than The Myth of Monogamy that I read a while back.

I like that it doesn't try to give answers (ok, in some places it does) but mostly it's just trying to get people to ask questions. Also, it's not nearly as much about sex as it thinks it is.
